Actress Cobie Smulders has opened up about battling ovarian cancer at the age of 25.
“I had tumours on both ovaries, and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues,” Smulders told Women’s Health in an interview.
For the next couple of years, the How I Met Your Mother actress underwent multiple surgeries to remove the cancerous tissue, which then left her with one third of an ovary.
Despite being told by doctors that she would never be able to get pregnant naturally, Smulders has two children with her actor husband Taran Killam.
The 33-year-old told the magazine: “I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free. Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”
