Dubai’s very own Ezra Santos is on a roll these days. One week after singer Colbie Caillat scorched the red carpet at the Grammys in one of his creations, Shakira has worn his design in her latest racy video with Rihanna for Can’t Remember to Forget You. But it’s something this Filipino designer, who set up his own atelier in Dubai in 2004, has become used to. From Britney Spears to Nicole Scherzinger and Arabia’s very own Haifa Wehbe, they’ve all worn Ezra Santos Couture.
tabloid! had five minutes with him to talk about the Caillat Grammy dress and which celebrities he’s dying to dress at the upcoming Oscars:
How did you get Colbie Caillat to wear your dress?
I work with a stylist in Los Angeles and he was the one who asked the artist to have a look at my designs and she loved it.
Did you know she was coming to perform at the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival?
I didn’t know until she mentioned it on the red carpet at the Grammys.
Tell us a little about the dress.
The crimson red dress was from my spring-summer collection last April from my Definiende del Amor collection. The dress is a laser cut wool baroque handmade embroidery with a long train.
The Oscars are coming. Which stars would you love to dress?
I would love to see Angelina Jolie wear my dress. I just love her.
