Meera Kathiravan, whose debut film Aval Peyar Tamilarasi premiered at Dubai International Film Festival in 2009, is back with his second film, Vizhithiru.

Kathiravan’s story tracks the lives of four individuals on one night in Chennai and along the way he raises questions on social issues.

From politics, where power is misused, casteism, women’s issues and to the emergence of today’s young generation as a socially conscious and active power, Kathiravan’s script grew with happenings over the past four years.

How do the lives of four individuals get interlinked on the night of Karthigai Deepam, when the city of Chennai is lit up with more than a thousand lamps?

Vizhithiru has an ensemble cast of accomplished actors. Director Venkat Prabhu plays a visually challenged dubbing artist, whose little daughter goes missing. Child star Sarah plays Prabhu’s onscreen daughter.

Krishna plays Muthu Kumar, who is returning to his village after meeting a friend in Chennai. Dhansika and Vidharth are paired opposite each other. Abhinaya, a speech impaired actress, plays a radio presenter. Thambi Ramiah is a retired army soldier and an aging Romeo. Erica Fernandes is paired opposite newcomer Rahul Bhaskaran. Look out for Sudha Chandran (of Naache Mayuri fame) in a key role.

Sathyan Mahalingam begins his career as a composer with this album. Seven composers — T. Rajendar, Vijay Antony, G.V. Prakash, Santosh Narayanan, S.S. Thaman, C. Sathya and Alphonse — have rendered the songs. While Santosh Narayanan has sung the number Pon Vidhi, which is purely vocal without any accompanying instruments, T. Rajendran’s peppy number Papparappa is a hit.

Vizhithiru releases in India on November 3.
