“Stay awake” cautions Tamil director Meera Kathiravan with the title of his upcoming film.

Vizhithiru, set in Chennai, tells the story of one night when the lives of several people get interlinked. Kathiravan, who debuted with Aval Peyar Tamilarasi in 2010, said that Vizhithiru is about four individuals.

“However, each story is set in a different mode,” he said.

There is director Venkat Prabhu playing a visually challenged dubbing artist. He is a single parent to a school going girl, played by baby Sarah. Actor Krishna is Muthukumar, who is returning to his village after meeting a friend in Chennai, that night. Speech impaired actress Abhinaya plays a radio jockey. Thambi Ramiah has been cast in an unusual role, added Kathiravan. Ramiah plays an ageing Romeo.

Sudha Chandran (of Naache Mayuri fame) is back on-screen in a key role. The supporting cast includes Dhansika, Vidharth, Rahul Bhaskaran, Erica Fernandes and Telugu actor Naga Babu.

Debutant Sathyan Mahalingam has composed music. Interestingly seven music composers, T. Rajendar, Vijay Antony, G.V. Prakash, Santosh Narayanan, S.S. Thaman, C. Sathya, and Alphonse have sung for this album — the highlight being Santosh Narayanan’s song, Pon Vidhi, which is purely vocal without any accompanying instruments.

Vijay Milton and R.V. Saran are the cinematographers.

Kathiravan who has produced Vizhithiru along with friends under the banner, Haya Mariyam Film House, said Vizhithiru questions some issues prevalent in society.

Vizhithiru releases in India on March 17.
