The cast of Tamil film Chennai 600028 were newcomers. The story didn’t fit into the mould of movies being made in 2007, yet director Venkat Prabhu went on to score a sixer with his first directorial venture.

What impressed everyone was the simple tale of gully cricket shouldered by characters that people could relate to.

Now as the tagline of its sequel reads: ‘The boys are back’

Prabhu and his team return with Chennai 600028-II, which of course revolves around cricket.

“It’s a reunion for the team,” says Prabhu.

“Many of the players from the first part are married and some are not able to play cricket.”

The characters reunite for a match, forced by a particular situation. But this time, the match is not being played in Chennai. The matches are held in a rural region outside Chennai.

The cast includes Mirchi Siva, Nithin Sathya, Jai, Akash Arvind, Vijay Vasanth, Vijayalakshmi and PremG, who played significant roles in part one, and Vaibhav, Maheshwari, Sana Althaf and Anjana are joining the team.

If Yuvan Shankar Raja’s number, Saroja Saman Nikalo endeared viewers in the first part, Shankar once again raises expectations with his songs.

Check out Soppana Sundari sung by the cousins Karthik Raja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Venkat Prabhu and Premgi.

So has Premgi’s Seenu finally learnt to catch a tossed ball without dropping it?

And will any of his dialogues be punchlines as effective as ‘Enna Kodumai Saar Idhu?’ from the first part?

Is Prabhu on his way to scoring another sixer? We can’t wait to find out.

Chennai 600028-II, produced by Prabhu’s Black Ticket Company, releases in UAE on December 9.
