With wacky lyrics in a mix of Tamil and English and a catchy tune, the song Shoot the Kuruvi, from the film, Jil Jung Juk, is already a chart-buster.
Sample this:
Sorry it’s my kili, not kuruvi
Dowser uruvi dowser uruvi
God shot my goddamn kuruvi
My poor kuruvi
Why God, why?
Adding to the amusement is veteran actor Radha Ravi rapping in Tamil:
Dear pulla nee illaama
Manasula rendu naala novu
Yaendi un inky pinky ponkyla
Naan thaana kaavu
Time iruntha en veettu
Pakkam vanthu koovu
So, what’s this action-comedy, releasing in the UAE on February 11, all about?
First-time director Deeraj Vaidy, who wrote the story with his childhood friend, Mohan Ramakrishnan, revealed that the story grew from their wildest dreams.
“We were chilling on the terrace and tossing [around] ideas,” recalled Vaidy, who quit a corporate job to follow his heart.
“From one crazy idea to another more crazier [one], the script got moving and interesting,” he added.
Jil Jung Juk, set in 2020, is about “how the universe can be both ruthless and kind” to a group of men, he said.
Jil Jung Juk grew from a pilot film that was shown to Tamil actor Siddharth, who decided to produce it and act in it, too.
Every character in the film comes with an idiosyncrasy.
If Siddharth’s Jil is quick-witted and can smooth-talk his way out of a tricky situation, Juk, played by Sananth, is a fun-loving guy living in his own world.
Sananth was last seen in Tamil film DeMonte Colony.
“Juk doesn’t react to the happenings around him and does his own thing,” added Sananth. “He will keep viewers chuckling.”
Avinash Raghudevan plays the paranoid Jung. Raghudevan had a small role in Tamil film, Arima Nambi.
Supporting the lead cast are Radha Ravi, Dina and Amarendran in the role of gangsters. There is no heroine in this tale of men.
Ravi, who has acted in 310 films, said that his character, Rolex Rowther, is unique and one that he has never explored before.
From crazy hairdos to weird looks, and the presentation of the story in a new mould, the makers rediscovered the child in themselves.
The film was shot in Chennai and Kanchipuram.
Vishal Chandrasekhar has scored the music for the film. As for the wacky lyrics we talked about, they are written by Vivek.
