Bollywood actress Sridevi, who was the star of south Indian films in the 1970s and ’80s, is back in a Tamil film.

“It’s like coming home to my mother’s,” said the Filmfare best actress award winner for Meendum Kokila, at the audio launch of Puli.

Speaking in Tamil, the actress who is fondly remembered for films such as 16 Vayidhinile and Moondram Pirai said she was initially apprehensive of working on a Tamil film after 28 years.

“I was surprised by Vijay’s humility,” she said, thanking director Chimbu Devan for the opportunity.

The ceremony, held in Mahabalipuram, was largely dominated by the presence of actor Vijay’s fans.

Actor Simbu’s father, actor T. Rajendar, who was one of the guests, took the opportunity to praise Vijay for helping his son launch his film Vaalu, and had the audience roaring with his humour.

Puli, a fantasy action adventure, boasts an ensemble cast, with Hansika Motwani, Shruthi Haasan, Prabhu, Thambi Ramiah and Kannada star Sudeep.

Devi Sri Prasad has scored the music for the film, including the song Yaendi Yaendi, which has been sung by Vijay and Haasan.

Produced by P.T. Selvakumar and Shibu Thameens, Puli will release later this month.
