The first teaser for Rajinikanth’s Tamil gangster drama Kabali has broken records for a south Indian film with more than four million views since it was unveiled on Sunday on the occasion of International Labour Day.

The 67-second trailer introduces viewers to Rajinikanth’s character, Kabali, who says he is not a stereotypical gangster.

Wearing John Lennon glasses and a three-piece suit, the 65-year-old is referred to as “fire”.

Towards the end of teaser, there’s a shot of Rajinikanth from the 1970s, where he’s seen walking out of a restaurant, flipping his hair back in his signature Rajini way.

An hour after its launch online, the teaser got nearly 50,000 views.

Rajinikanth plays an ageing don in the film, which is directed by Pa. Ranjith. The film also stars Radhika Apte, Kalaiarasan, Dinesh and Ritwika.
