Tamil film Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom is fondly remembered not just for its humorous and unconventional story but for the chemistry between the lead pair, Vijay Sethupathi and Gayatri.

Puriyatha Puthir, directed by debutant Rajnith Jeyakodi, brings them back onscreen again as lovers.

Jejakodi says that he has written an emotional thriller and it is pivoted around an issue that we encounter in our everyday lives.

“What are its consequences, we realise only when it hits us,” said Jeyakodi, “Until then it’s someone else’s problem.”

Sethupathi plays a musician named Kathir, but this story is not about music. It dwells on his relationship with Meera, a violin teacher, played by Gayatri. The trailers have spiked interest with Sethupathi’s varied emotions.

Jeyakod,i who assisted Tamil director Ram (known for films Thangameenkal and the recent Taramani) calls Sethupathi a dedicated and involved actor who improvises his role.

“Gayatri like clay can be moulded into any character. Her Meera is a stark contrast to the Dhanalakshmi of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom,” he said.

Puriyatha Puthir, produced by Rebel Studio releases, in the UAE on August 31.
