Meet Prabhu Deva: choreographer, actor, director and now producer who launched his production house, Prabhu Deva Studios, in Chennai on August 3.

“As an actor I felt nervous only during the release of my film. When I became a director, the anxious moments started once the editing work began. But as producer, I have already starting worrying about my new responsibility,” said Deva, who will be producing three films.

His first production venture is being directed by noted Malayalam director Priyadarshan. Priyadarshan returns with his National Film Award-winning Kanchivaram team — lead pair Prakash Raj and Shriya Reddy. Tamil director Vijay, who assisted the director on Kanchivaram, will co-produce under his banner, Think Big Studios.

Deva’s second venture, an untitled project in Tamil, will be directed by Lakshman, who debuted with last month’s hit release Romeo-Juliet.

Jeyam Ravi is playing the lead. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised.

“There is something novel about Lakshman’s script, which has all the trappings of a commercial film,” said Deva.

His third project is titled Vinodan and is being directed by newcomer Victor Jayaraj. Varun, who plays a supporting role in the upcoming film, Night Show, the Tamil remake of Malayalam film, Shutter, is the lead.

Lyricist Madan Karky, who is writing the dialogues for this film said, “This is a story about a young man with a mental disorder, but devoid of melodrama and cliches.”

From assisting his father, veteran choreographer Sundaram, Deva’s career graph grew steadily as he transformed himself into an actor and then became a successful director in Bollywood with Rowdy Rathore and Action Jackson. His next direction Singh is Bling is set to release in October.
