If it was Jayam Ravi last week wearing the khaki police uniform, it’s Vishal’s turn now. It’s not his first time playing a police officer, though. After Satyam, the 2008 Tamil film, Vishal slips into the uniform for Paayum Puli, directed by Suseenthiran, to play an undercover cop.
So how different is this police tale?
“This story is about policemen and [it] pays respect to them,” said Suseenthiran. Set in Madurai, it revolves around how the entire law force comes together to support one of their colleagues.
Vishal lost 10kg to get into the role of Jayaseelan.
Suseenthiran, who has also written the script, said that the story is inspired by a real-life incident reported in the media.
Kajal Aggarwal plays Vishal’s onscreen lover, Sowmya.
“Sowmya is a character that Kajal has not tried earlier,” Suseenthiran said.
“She runs a nursery school. Sowmya is a timid woman who is scared of crossing the road alone and of the dark. Kajal has portrayed Sowmya in a cute way,” he adds.
Tamil actor Jayaprakash plays a businessman and Sowmya’s father in this story. Comedian Soori is a police constable and Jayaseelan’s friend. Tamil actor RK plays a 55-year-old Minister, a role beyond his age. Kannada actor Samy makes his Tamil cinema debut. Other members of the cast include Appu Kutty and Anand Raj.
D. Iman has scored the music. Velraj is the cinematographer.
“It’s an edge-of-the-seat thriller,” Suseenthiran promised. “Viewers will be wondering what’s [coming] next.”
