Movies have been made about dogs, cats and elephants, too. But whoever heard of a fish playing a pivotal role in a film?

Debutant director Mani Seiyon’s Tamil film, Kattappava Kaanom, explores a fantasy tale with a fish playing the central character.

“It is about a fish, used in a home for Vaasthu purposes,” said Seiyon, a former assistant of Tamil director Arivazhagan.

This fish is named Kattappa and the harbinger of luck to every home he travels to.

What happens when Kattappa goes missing?

Seiyon added that they have not resorted to CG effects but procured a live fish for a realistic feel in the story.

Aishwarya Rajesh of Kaaka Muttai fame plays Meenu, a young bride. Sibiraj is paired opposite her.

Anand Jeeva is the cinematographer. Santosh Dhayanidhi has scored music.

Kattappava Kanom is produced by Wind Chimes Media Entertainment and releases on March 17.
