How easy is it to make a name in the Tamil film industry?
Ask the four lead actors of Kallappadam, who are playing themselves in this story.
J. Vadivel, former assistant of Tamil director Mysskin, has directed the film and plays an aspiring director. Supporting him are his friends, aspiring editor Gaugin, cinematographer Santosh Sriram and music composer K, in this story of survival in the film industry.
Lakshmi Priya, last seen in Tamil film Suttakathai, plays Leena, a heroine who is no longer in demand.
“With dark shades to her character, Leena is a woman who fights against her odds,” said Vadivel.
Tamil director Mysskin has written and sung the song, Vellakaara Rani.
An interesting experiment in the album is using two different genres in one song — a koothu song merging with a rock number.
Produced by Anand Ponniraivan, Kallappadam has been selected for the Revelation Perth International Festival scheduled for July and for the Melbourne Underground Film Festival in September.
