Modern life centred around the internet age comes with its share of woes. Obsession with social media is one.

Debutant director-duo Shankar and Suresh explore the downside of life in the virtual world through their maiden venture, Inayathalam (Website).

This cybercrime thriller features Ganesh Venkatram and Shwetha Menon in the lead roles. Menon plays Helen, a cyber crime officer and single parent to a 7-year-old girl.

“At the core of the story is a murder and the police is investigating this case,” said Shankar, who is a UAE resident.

“People’s obsession with social media is a matter of concern. We have to be responsible and sensitively handle every message that passes through our hands instead of forwarding them without giving it a thought. It could affect someone,” said the director.

Venkatram plays a police officer who is brought in to solve the murder. Erode Mahesh plays a cyber crime officer who is assisting Helen in the investigation.

“Onlookers are more keen on clicking pictures at accident sites instead of calling for the ambulance,” said Venkatram.

Film buffs and childhood buddies, Shankar and Suresh have scripted the story. Lyrics and dialogues are written by Marabin Maindhan Muthiah.

The supporting cast includes Delhi Ganesh, G. Koushika, Y.G. Mahendran and veteranactress Sukanya.

Inayathalam was shot in Coimbatore and Chennai. Arrol Corelli has composed music. A. Karthick Raaja has handled cinematography.

Inayathalam produced by Uma Shankar releases on May 19 in India. A UAE release date has not been confirmed.
