There is no stopping veteran Tamil director Bharatiraja.

The six time Indian National Award winner returns to the screen in a role in Tamil film Kurangu Bombai (Monkey Portrait). His last role as an actor was in Pandiyanaadu, released in 2013.

Newcomer Nithilan has directed and written Kurangu Bombai, a story about the bond shared by a father and son. Bharatiraja plays the father and his onscreen son is Vidarth. Vidarth plays a taxi driver. Malayali actress Delna Davis makes her debut in Tamil cinema opposite him.

It’s a suspense thriller, revealed Nithilan, who won the television reality show Naalaya Iyukkanar.

Nithilan’s short film Punnagai Vanginaal Kaneer Ilavasam was much appreciated.

Nithilan was nervous initially while working with the legendary director, but he was reassured by Bharatiraja who put him at ease.

“It’s a big responsibility casting Bharatiraja in a role. He was not only a guide to me on the sets but used to improvise his role on the spot. I learned a good deal from him,” said Nithilan.

Kurangu Bombai produced by Shreya Sri Movies releases in India on September 1.
