Those who missed Tamil thriller Thani Oruvan can catch its official remake in Telugu soon.

Titled Dhruva and directed by Surender Reddy, this action story features Ram Charan and Arvind Swamy in the lead.

Thani Oruvan, a story of good versus evil, scored with its engaging screenplay and unexpected twists.

Arvind Swamy, the fondly remembered star of Maniratnam’s Roja, surprised viewers with his portrayal of Siddharth, the suave villain of Thani Oruvan. Siddharth, a stylish, intelligent scientist, was unlike any Tamil villain. Swamy reprises that role in Dhruva.

Ram Charan plays IPS Dhruva, the character played by Jayam Ravi in the original, and this story is about the cat and mouse game he plays with Siddharth. Rakul Preet Singh plays Nayanthara’s role of a forensic scientist and the love interest of Charan.

The Telugu version has retained the original story, written by director Mohan Raja; however, Vema Reddy has written the Telugu dialogues.

“We have tweaked the story to suit the Telugu culture and also keeping in mind Ram Charan’s image,” said director Reddy.

Reddy entered the industry in 2005, winning the Nandi award for his debut film, Athanokkade. He is known for commercial hits such as Kick and Race Gurram. Dhruva is Reddy’s eighth film.

Reddy says it took him a while to get over the fact that he was directing the Roja star. He found Swamy an interesting person to talk to.

“We added more style to his character in Dhruva,” he said.

Reddy is working for the first time with Charan and his initial apprehensions about working with Chiranjeevi’s son vanished once filming began. Reddy found Charan humble and honest. For the policeman’s role, Charan worked on his physique for three months — his six pack is on display in trailers.

Rakul Preet Singh’s character comes with more glamour than Nayanthara’s. And an extra song sequence has been included, too.

Reddy says Dhruva is a new kind of film in Telugu cinema. He is confident of its success.

Besides the gripping screenplay and brilliant performances in Thani Oruvan, Hip Hop Tamizah’s music was appreciated.

The music composer has repeated the same magic in Dhruva. P.S. Vinod is the cinematographer.

Dhruva, produced by Allu Arjun, releases in the UAE on December 8.
