Atharva Murali is not one to make snap decisions. But when he first heard the script of Gemini Ganeshanum Surli Rajanum, the actor decided to bend the rules just this once.

“Within 10 minutes of the story narration I decided to work in this film,” he says.

The Paradesi actor, who has built a career for himself working in action films, takes a leap of faith as he attempts comedy for the first time.

“I love comedy films and have always been keen, but the scripts I listened to did not make me laugh. Director Illavarasu’s story got me interested and I knew this was it,” he explains.

Director Odam Illavarasu, a television veteran, is launching his cinematic career with GGSR.

In the film, Murali plays the titular role of Gemini Ganesan; and true to the veteran actor’s image as a ladies man, this reel-life Gemini Ganeshan will woo five women on screen.

Aishwarya Rajesh, Regina Cassandra and Pranitha, along with newcomers Aditi Dev and Neha Malik, play his leading ladies.

Meanwhile, comedian Soori plays Suruli Rajan, a local goon.

Director Illavarasu says this coming-of-age story starts in Madurai, where the hero lives, and progresses to Ooty where Gemini Ganeshan enrols in college.

Produced by Amma Creations, GGSR releases in the UAE on July 14.
