Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor turned out in full force at the sixth Zee Entertainment Awards 2017, held in Mumbai on July 29. Kapoor and Bhatt, the lead pair from the controversial drug drama Udta Punjab, won the best actor awards.

Bhatt, who wore a pink Sachin & Babi gown, tweeted: “Awards night. Thank you BIG ZEE for the recognition tonight :) #udtapunjab.”

Kapoor also shared a picture and said: “Thank you big Zee Entertainment awards for best actor. #udtapunjab.”

Kapoor, who is currently working on the historical drama Padmavati, responded to questions about the disruption of filming of the historical drama.

Protests erupted when right-wing supporters opposed the romantic angle between Rajput queen Padmavati and ruler Alauddin Khilji. The activists vandalised the sets, also attacking director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

“According to me, I have not shot any scene which has been changed. I think there were a lot of presumptions about the film, and people were presuming about the scenes. The clarification has been given that no such scene is there in the film. I hope when people see this film, they will realise that the heart of the film and intent of the film is very good,” Kapoor told reporters.

“This country and the people who live in it, and specially the area we are talking about in the film, will be glorified. I play a Rajput king and my character, I feel, will be admired by people,” he added.

Tiger Shroff won two awards including the best action hero for Baaghi and most entertaining dancer (Beat Pe Booty) for A Flying Jatt.

He tweeted: “Blessed to be a part of both films. Thank u #sajidnadiadwala sir - @wardakhannadiadwala, @sabbir24x7 sir n @remodsouza sir [sic].”

The night also belonged to the Bachchans. Amitabh Bachchan took home the most entertaining actor in drama (male) award for his performance in the hit drama Pink, while his son Abhishek won the award for most entertaining actor in comedy (male) for Housefull 3. The daughter-in-law of Bachchan Senior, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, scooped the award for most entertaining actor in drama (female) for her role in Sarbjit.
