The Punjab government on Tuesday said it has never opposed the film Udta Punjab. “I have no comment. Punjab government have never opposed Udta Punjab. It [the controversy] is between the CBFC [Central Board of Film Certification] and the makers of the film,” said Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa.

Dhindsa, who was in Kolkata for the meeting of the Empowered Committee of state finance ministers on goods and services tax, said he had not seen the film and was in no position to say how the director portrayed Punjab in the movie.

“I will be able to make comment after seeing the movie. CFBC have seen it and they will be in a position to make comment,” he said.

The CBFC at one point demanded 89 cuts in the film, but its Revising Committee later brought down the number to 13 on June 6.

The Bombay High Court on Monday overruled the CBFC-recommended 13 cuts and cleared it for release with one cut and three disclaimers by the filmmakers.
