Imtiaz Ali’s latest entertainer Tamasha, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, has made Rs382.3 million (Dh21 million) in its opening weekend, thereby giving the movie’s team a reason to party.

According to a statement by the film’s makers, the opening day brought in Rs109.4 million, day two Rs131.7 million and day three Rs141.2 million.

To raise a toast to the numbers, Kapoor and Padukone planned an impromptu party on Monday night at a suburban restaurant in New Delhi. The duo personally sent out invitations to their industry friends to be a part of their success.

“Ranbir and Deepika are completely overwhelmed with the response,” a spokesperson said.

Tamasha is about two people who meet while on a holiday and decide to pretend to be together during the trip, but problems erupt when they return to real life.

Presented by UTV Motion pictures and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Tamasha is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
