Bollywood actor Salman Khan, out on bail after being sentenced to five years in prison for a fatal 2002 car crash, will attend and perform at Arab Indo Bollywood Awards 2015 at Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse on May 29, organisers have confirmed.

The event, organised by Benchmark in association with Al Bustan Group, is likely to be Khan’s first foreign assignment after his turbulent jail-or-bail saga last week.

On May 6, Khan was sentenced to five years in prison after being convinced of several charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder after he lost control of his SUV and rammed into a pavement in Mumbai killing one and injuring four other homeless people. Khan has consistently denied charges of drunk and negligent driving.

CAN SALMAN TRAVEL?

Khan needs to seek permission in order to travel outside India, Indian media reported last Friday when he was bailed. According to Indian newspaper DNA, “deciding the conditions of bail, Judge Thipsay asked if Salman’s passport was with him and was told that it was in the possession of the Bandra police and the actor routinely sought its permission before going abroad.”

It’s the first time that AIBA, an awards ceremony put together to honour Bollywood’s brightest stars, is being held in the UAE. Actors such as Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra, Neha Dhupia are some of the other stars slated to attend along with Khan.

Tickets can be purchased across all UAE Exchange outlets within UAE as well as online at www.aibagulf.com.
