The Pakistani journalist who inspired Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character in the recent Bollywood hit Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has appealed to Salman Khan for compensation.

Chand Nawab is a journalist who works for a local television channel in Pakistan. He thanked Khan, who is both the producer and the star of the movie, for referencing him in the movie.

“I am very thankful to Salman bhai, who considered my character worthy enough to be given a role in his movie,” Nawab told tabloid! in the courtyard of Karachi Press Club (KPC). “I am a poor journalist and don’t want to deal with the legalities, but I expect Khan to give me a compensation for using me as an inspiration for a character,” Nawab said.

Nawab became popular in Pakistan after a news clip was uploaded on Youtube and other social media. It shows Nawab struggling to finish his news bite, shooing unconcerned people away as they walk between him and his cameraman. The irritated Nawab, in a bid to hastily finish recording, starts calling names to the passersby who interrupt his commentary.

While the video became viral, it has hampered Nawab’s career as a serious journalist.

Siddiqui’s character in Bajrangi Bhaijaan recreates the famous video.

“This movie could be a new beginning for my career,” Nawab said wistfully.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the movie tells the story of Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi, played by Khan, who takes it upon himself to reunite a mute girl lost in India with her parents in Pakistan.
