Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi says the third instalment of Munna Bhai series is delayed because Rajkumar Hirani-directed Sanjay Dutt biopic is yet to start shooting.

“That [starting Munna Bhai 3] is an issue as Raju has to start the Sanjay Dutt biopic and it is getting pushed ahead,” Arshad told PTI. “Until and unless he decides he wants to do Munna Bhai part three first and then the Sanjay Dutt biopic”.

Hirani approached Ranbir Kapoor to play Dutt’s role in the biopic in November 2014 and the actor instantly agreed.

The film was expected to start in June but has been pushed to January and release at Christmas next year.

Since the Munna Bhai series is one of the most successful franchise, Warsi, 48, is quite excited about the third part.

“I do my job, I don’t take stress. The more stress you take the worse you get. You hear a script, you like it, you give your best,” he said.

There were rumours that Warsi and Dutt won’t be seen in the third instalment and younger actors will be playing the iconic characters of Munnabhai and Circuit.

“I don’t think it will happen. I doubt it,” said Warsi about the rumours.

Munna Bhai MBBS was a story of a golden-hearted goon named Munnabhai played by Dutt who goes to a medical college. Circuit is his sidekick. The film’s sequel Lage Raho Munnabhai showed Munna using Gandhian philosophy to bring about a change in the society.

Dutt had earlier served a jail sentence in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. He was released in February.

“I met him after he was back home,” said Warsi. “We talked about lot of things which I can’t say. We talked about what he went through, his angst, on family, upcoming films.”
