The UAE just can’t seem to get enough of Indian comedian Kapil Sharma and his brand of caustic humour.

After performing in Abu Dhabi this past weekend, Sharma and group are making their way to Dubai for a new show on October 27 at the Shaikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre.

He’s bringing along the team from his popular Kapil Sharma Show — Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Ali Asgar, Sugandha Mishra and Chandan Prabhakar. Together, they are known to be a collective hoot.

It wasn’t long ago that Dubai got acquainted with Sharma and his team’s antics.

In September 2014, Sharma won over the 5,000-strong audience even though he took a few playful swipes at them. No topic, including politics and gender stereotypes, was off limits.

“After a blockbuster sell-out show in 2014, we are very excited to bring back Kapil and his entire family back to entertain fans in Dubai. A guaranteed two hours of laughter, fun and surprises [are] coming your way,” said Anita Abraham of Eyka Events, the organisers.

Two years ago, this journalist also witnessed the ease with which the cherubic comedian got fans to poke fun at themselves.

Sample this. “I heard that women in Dubai are heavily fined if they apply make-up while driving, but do they realise that those women need that make-up to look fine,” Sharma said in Hindi.

Another joke fed off cultural stereotypes: “All the Gujaratis in this hall raise your hands. Welcome, but how many of you actually paid for their tickets? But you know what: it takes more effort to get a free pass than buying a ticket. I would know.”

Sharma, who is currently hosting celebrity chat show The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony Television, became a household name in India with the hugely popular comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil that was launched in June 2013. Sharma wrapped the hit series in January 2016, but continues to make waves with his new show.

The Dubai show will stick to the format of The Kapil Sharma Show.

Tickets are now on sale today on platinumlist.net and are priced from Dh250 to Dh2,500. Doors open at 7pm and the show is scheduled to start at 9pm. Call 050-1596134.
