Kangana Ranaut said on Wednesday that women are taking on different roles in the film industry in recent years and that this is a sign of women empowerment.

“When I started ten years ago, it used to be rare to find a lady assistant director or a woman editor.

“But if you go to a film set, it’s completely taken over by women now. So these are the women who are inspiring these stories [of women empowerment],” she said.

Ranaut said that women’s importance as consumers of entertainment has also increased over the years.

“At least we have put across to people with this thinking that if you want to treat a girl child differently than a male child or you think the girl’s character is just about the length of her trousers or skirt, then I think a person deep down should know that how we are judging this person,” she said.

Ranaut will next be seen in filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s period drama Rangoon. It also stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. The film will hit theatres in India in February, 2017.
