Kabir Khan denies claims of protests in Karachi

Bajrangi Bhaijaan director Kabir Khan on Wednesday urged the media from India and Pakistan to ignore reports that he was greeted in Karachi with protests and anti-India slogans.

There were reports that protests had erupted at Karachi airport against Khan as he was about to board a plane to go to Lahore.

He tweeted: “To media on both sides: 12 screaming lunatics with a mobile phone camera is not news. Please don’t give them the attention they want. Ignore”.

One man reportedly waved a shoe at Khan, who did not respond to the ruckus at the departure lounge, Dawn reported.

In 2015, Khan released his film Phantom, about a retired Indian Army officer who leads a mission to kill Pakistani terrorist leader Hafiz Saeed. It was set in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the film was banned in Pakistan.

However, Khan’s latest film starring Salman Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, showed the relationship between the two countries in a positive light and was well-received in Pakistan.

Khan was in the Pakistani city to take part in a conference and said he was a firm believer in India’s secular fabric and in the friendship between the two countries.
