Actor Irrfan Khan has confirmed he has been diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, which is described as a rare condition that develops from cells of the endocrine (hormonal) system that are found in organs including the stomach, bowel and lungs.

Posting a heartfelt message on his official Twitter handle, the actor wrote: “The unexpected makes us grow, which is what the past few days have been about. Learning that I have been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour as of now has been admittedly difficult, but the love and strength of those around me and that I found within me has brought me to a place of hope.”

He continued: “The journey of this is taking me out of the country, and I request everyone to continue sending their wishes. As for the rumours that were floated, neuro is not always about the brain and googling is the easiest way to do research.

“To those who waited for my word, I hope to be back with more stories to tell.”

Earlier this month, Khan had revealed that he was suffering from a ‘rare disease’ and would share details about it soon.

The 51-year-old actor has postponed the shoot of his film with director Vishal Bhardwaj, which also stars Deepika Padukone.
