Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh will play the protagonist in a Sardaar Ji 2, a Bollywood film by director Rohit Jugraj Chauhan.
Dosanjh, 32, is making his Hindi film debut with Udta Punjab.
“I am working with Diljit on a rom-com. This will be my first Bollywood project after a gap of 10 years. I want to make a great comeback. We are planning to cast an A-list Bollywood actress opposite Diljit.” Chauhan said.
The filmmaker praised Dosanjh and said he is the best thing about Udta Punjab, which also stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt.
“He is a very dedicated actor,” Chauhan said.
Chauhan, who made his Bollywood directorial debut with 2005 film James, has worked as an assistant director with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ram Gopal Varma.
The director said he learned a lot working with both filmmakers.
“Sanjay sir is someone who will not shoot a scene until the time all the candles are lit up and RGV is the man who can covert a blind school into a [crime lord’s] house.
“The two are completely different and working with them made me understand that cinema doesn’t have a fixed language. One has to create their own language to reach out to the people,” he added.
After making his Bollywood debut, Chauhan decided to do Punjabi films.
“The reason why regional cinema is doing great is its strong content. The detailing and the whole process of story telling is real and connected to the roots. People feel they are looking at their own story,” Chauhan said.
“On the other hand, most of Bollywood films don’t look real at all. The common man aspires for such a life, but never connects with it,” he said.
