He’s been photographing celebrities for the last 20 years. Although hesitant to play favourites, here are Dabboo Ratnani’s favourite Bollywood stars to work with and why:
Shah Rukh Khan: Shah Rukh and I have known each other since he moved to Mumbai. We met at a friend’s place and used to watch movies together on Laser Discs. Then he got his first movie and big break right about the time I got my first big assignment. And we’ve been close friends since.
Hrithik Roshan: Hrithik holds me responsible for bringing him into the industry since we did his first portfolio shoot. We’ve always shared a great bond. He still makes amazing pictures like he was on his first photoshoot.
Amitabh Bachchan: Mr Bachchan has always been very special in terms of how he treats us. We are there so often for their family’s parties and events. Our kids are friends with his grandchildren.
Parineeti Chopra: From the new generation of actors, I love Parineeti because she makes amazing pictures. She’s great fun to work with and an amazing actress.
Alia Bhatt: Alia is beautiful and versatile. Also I have a special connection with the Bhatt family — I’ve known Pooja Bhatt (Alia’s half sister) since 1993. Alia has grown with every shoot. She oozes confidence and you can see evolution with each shoot we do.
