Bollywood filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who has made movies like Lagaan, Swades and Jodha Akbar, says he likes researching a lot for his films, even if it takes time.

The 52-year-old director met film students and aspiring filmmakers for the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) masterclass programme on Friday evening, in Mumbai.

Thes masterclass session was moderated by television director Ravi Rai.

Gowariker spoke about the research that goes into making a film, especially if it is for a historical film.

“I always do the research myself. I read all the books on the subject that I am going to adapt and understand the era myself. It can take a long time but it prepares you well,” Gowariker, who claims to be working on his most ambitious film Mohenjo Daro, said on Friday evening.

Gowariker advised aspiring actors to be completely prepared for auditions and not be disheartened if they get rejected.

“Remember your talent is not getting rejected, maybe you didn’t suit the part you auditioned for,” he added.
