Academy award-winning composer AR Rahman will be honoured with the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award in Mumbai on October 26.

The fifth Hridaynath Award will be conferred on Rahman by veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai on the birth anniversary of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, the younger brother of legendary playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

The first Hridaynath award was given to Lata. Asha, megastar Amitabh Bachchan and legendary actress Sulochana Tai have also been its recipients.

Bachchan was feted with the fourth such honour and last year it was presented to Tai.

In 2009, 48-year-old Rahman won the Oscar for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, together with lyricist Gulzar, for his work in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.

The singer-composer has also won four National Awards in a career spanning over two decades.
