Indian music maestro AR Rahman paid a surprise visit to a 1,000-member all-girl choir from Gems Our Own English High School ahead of the concert that he will host in Dubai on January 26 at Bollywood Parks.

The choir came together pay tribute to the composer and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the school’s opening.

The live performance was held against the backdrop of the Rajmahal Theatre at the Bollywood Parks. However, unbeknown to the girls and the school, Rahman chose to make an unannounced appearance.

The choir, aged between five and 17 performed Maa Tujhe Salaam, one of Rahman’s most popular compositions.

“The performance was truly soul stirring. To imagine that 1,000 talented girls came together to perform one of my favourite compositions, beautifully, is a moment I will cherish forever,” said Rahman.
