Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen in an unglamorous role as Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur in the Omung Kumar-directed biopic.
The shooting of Sarbjit, which follows the story of an Indian convict who was executed in a Pakistani jail, began this week in Mumbai with Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda in the lead.
The film will be shot in various cities of Punjab like Amritsar, Malerkotla and Patiala in the month of January and the last leg of the schedule will be shot in Delhi in the month of February.
In the film, Rai Bachchan is going for a complete makeover for her role as Dalbir Kaur with no make-up and simple clothes.
“Omung and I are very proud that Sarabjit is the first film that we both are producing under our banner Legend Films. We choose Aishwarya to essay the role of Dalbir because of her dedication to the craft,” producer Sandeep Singh said in a statement.
“She has a lot of interest and worked together with the team to play a de-glam bespectacled Dalbir Kaur. The whole unit was stunned as they just couldn’t see a single bit of Aishwarya in the character,” Singh said.
Sarbjit is produced by Singh, Kumar and Vashu Bhagnani. The film is slated to release on May 20, 2016 in India, with its premiere scheduled at Cannes Film Festival.
