Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on Thursday lent his support to the water conservation efforts by attending a contest conducted by the state government of Maharashtra in Warud taluka (sub-district) of Vidarbha’s Amravati district.

People at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur were surprised to see the PK actor when he arrived late Wednesday night..

He was reportedly accompanied by Marathi stage and film actors Reema Lagoo, Anil Bhatkal, Sai Tamhankar and Anil Barwe.

Khan is promoting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ water conservation endeavour Jal Yukta Shivar.

When he met Fadnavis in mid-February, three drought-hit sub-districts of the state were selected for taking up water conservation through public participation. Ambejogai in Beed district of Marathwada and Koregaon in Satara district in western Maharashtra are contenders along with Warud.

Khan has instituted a Satyameva Jayate Water Cup [he presented and produced the controversial television show on socia-political issues a few years ago] for the best worker in water conservation work.
