Dubai: Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured on the opening night of the Marrakech International Film Festival in Morrocco on Friday. Moroccan actress Houda Rihana presented the actor with a trophy to pay tribute to his career. 

Other film personalities being honoured included actor Mohamed Bastaoui, Italian director Marco Bellocchio, American director Terry Gilliam, American actor-director Forest Whitaker and Moroccan actor-director Roschdy Zem. 

"In paying tribute to strong personalities from every horizon, the Festival maintains its position as world cinema's meeting point," said organisers in a release. 

Khan later met thousands of fans at the Jamaa Al Fana square and opened a special screening of his award-winning film My Name is Khan

Past recipients of the honour include directors Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone and actors Susan Sarandon, Youssef Chahine, Sean Connery, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sigourney Weaver. 

Khan, whose next release is the much-awaited Don 2, will also walk the red carpet on the opening night of the Dubai International Film Festival on December 7.

On December 8, he will participate in a "chat show" along with co-star Priyanka Chopra, director Farhan Akhtar and producer Riteish Sidhwani. For more information and ticket details, go to www.DubaiFilmFest.com.
