Mohammad Assaf is officially off the market.
On Wednesday, the Palestinian pop star announced that he was engaged in a Facebook post.
“I’m sorry Palestine and Al Quds, we only got married through our Prophet’s [PBUH] Sunna,” he wrote. “My beloved family and fan base from all over the world and from the Arab nation, as a son and brother to you all, it pleases me to share with you my joy through my engagement to a daughter of my country, Lina Qishawi.”
Qishawi is a Palestinian television host for a channel dubbed Al-Falastiniah. Assaf prayed for a successful journey ahead and called his fans, who are close to his heart, his “family and support and more than just fans”. The status was shared over 10,000 times and liked over 300,000 times by his nearly 7.5 million followers.
One fan’s response, which garnered over 5,000 likes, was a lighthearted message from an admirer: “Oh no, Assaf. You and I are born on the same date, and you go get engaged to someone else?”
Another fan said: “Congratulations. We’ve struck out the groom’s name from the book of bachelors.”
From Algeria, a happy commenter admired their combined beauty. “May Allah bless your relationship,” she said.
