We've had an orange fashion crush for ages, but by the looks of this year's Met Gala, half the A-list are as besotted as we are. This year's red carpet at the most anticipated fashion event in the calendar was saturated with juicy orange gowns with everything from clementine to tangerine adding a citrus zing to the proceedings. Huge on the spring catwalks of Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier, Monique Lhuillier, Victoria Beckham and, obviously, Hermès, the official colour of happiness has been embraced by celebs all over Hollywood. But fashion's zesty fixation shows no sign of souring any time soon - orange is key to the autumnal palettes of Versace and Gucci next season too. How's that for making a hot trend all the more appeeling?

FOOTNOTES

  • Hermès matched their S/S12 collection to their iconic luxe orange packaging, sending an array of top to toe tangoed looks down the runway. Try layering beautifully tailored separates in similar toned shades of orange to make a success of – rather than sartorially squash – this potentially troublesome look.
  • In China and Japan, the colour orange symbolises happiness and love.
