Festival season is finally upon us. And despite the laid-back, mellow vibe that professes ‘It's all about the music, man' knowing what to wear to one can be a bit of a nightmare, actually.

While it was easy for those at Woodstock (literally, less was more back in the 60s, if you catch our drift) partying for three days solid in the great outdoors with no full-length mirror and no idea of what the weather's doing, whilst attempting to look insanely cool is no easy task.

So, what's an aspiring festival fashionista to do when there's no fully stocked wardrobe and Winnebago to fall back on? Simple. Ask yourself ‘WWKOSW?' or ‘What Would Kate Or Sienna Wear?' Take your cues from the reigning queens of festival chic, and ponder how Mossy and Miller would do it.

A capsule collection of rucksack-friendly (and mud-resilient) rock-chick basics with a few quirky accessories thrown in is the formula for nailing that backstage pass faster than you can say ‘Pass the wellies and hotpants.' It's glamping all the way, girls!

Style notes: How to be festival fabulous

 - Festival dressing can be tricky. Think pretty and practical over perfectly primped.

 - Pack light and smart. A playsuit, flat boots, flip flops, oversized shirt, sunhat, shades, satchel, sarong, bikini, undies and a feather-light mac or sweater are your rucksack essentials.

 - Familiarise yourself with the concept of a Glastonbury shower. Pack baby wipes, hand-cleanser gel and dry shampoo - they are a festival-going girl's absolute beauty essentials when a lovely clean bathroom within a 10-mile radius is unlikely.

 - Get your eyelashes tinted before you go. It saves on panda-eye nightmares and carrying mascara and eye-make-up remover.

 - Do not take anything with you that you would be gutted to ruin or lose. Leave the Chanel handbag and heirloom gems at home.

 - Keep your key pieces tonal so they interchange effortlessly, adding fun accessories to give just enough rock-chick edge. A studded belt, funky sunnies, a cool hat, a printed scarf and a stack of bangles are ideal.
