Dubai: If you thought toting a python skin handbag or strutting around in boa high heels is the ultimate in style, you clearly haven't heard about the snakeskin manicure.

The Nail Spa in Dubai's Mercato Mall now allows you to complete your wild look with real snake skin nails.

Here discarded snake skin which is naturally shed by the animals is cut into the size of the client's nail before being glued in place with a special polish. A clear UV formula is then used to harden the molten scales. The hiss-terical process takes over two hours and can set you back by Dh900. A pedicure costs Dh990. "We do it for both hands and feet," said a staff at The Nail Spa, adding that the unusual treatment has become the new rage in town since it was introduced in August.

The manicure lasts up to three weeks and a pedicure up to 12 weeks

For effect, a customer can pick between a metallic or smooth finish - or downright scaly fingertips. Customers can choose from a range of snake skins.

"We have different snake skins, but not anaconda skins," she said.

US-based Bio Sculpture produces the gel polish that sets the snake skin in between coats for a look that is "radically reptilian", the company's brochure said.
