Dubai: A new service is being launched in Dubai on August 1 to allow residents to auction their used furniture, electronics or other household goods.

Called Auction House Dubai and located in Al Quoz 4, the 10,000 square feet facility is the first of its kind in the UAE according to founder Francis Morgan.

A British expat, Morgan told XPRESS the service will be a welcome alternative for residents to buy and sell pre-owned items without the ordeal of scanning ads in the newspaper or on the internet and negotiating the best price.

“Our facility is a specialised auction venue dedicated to all types of quality pre-owned household and electrical goods and garden furniture,” said Morgan, adding the auctions will be held every week over the weekends.

“We will host two auctions every Friday and two on Saturday. One is for goods with a guide price value under Dh1,000, and the other for items over Dh1,000,” he said, adding there will be a strict screening for the standard and quality of the items.

To avail the service, all residents have to do is contact the Auction House on 800 8243 or on info@theauctionhousedubai.com for a free appraisal of the items and to set the minimum reserve price. If agreeable, the goods will be collected and brought to the auction house. A week before the auction, an online and print catalogue will be made available with images and descriptions of the lots.

The warehouse will be open on weekdays as well and buyers can inspect the items before-hand. On the auction day, each lot will be presented in the auction venue, with buyers making their bids. The successful bidder can arrange delivery of the item after paying the seller.

Morgan said Auction House Dubai will take a 20 per cent brokerage from the seller. “We don’t take anything from the buyer.”
