Dubai: It took only two hours for Jimmy Choo’s collection for budget retailer H&M to sell out on Thursday morning in Dubai.

Customers queued outside the Dubai Mall store from 8am, surging through the doors when they finally opened at 9am to strip the shelves clean of Dh599 high-heeled sandals, over-the-knee boots and zebra-print flats from the collection, with many buying several pairs of shoes at a time.

The capsule collection from Jimmy Choo, a British high-end accessories brand where a pair of sandals normally retails for around Dh2,000, is the latest in a long line of collaborations.

H&M has worked extensivelty before with designer brands, and Jimmy Choo is following in the footsteps of tie-ups with Matthew Williamson, Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

The collection, which also featured handbags, men’s shoes and, for the first time from Jimmy Choo, clothing, went on sale around the world last week, selling out in most stores.

A spokeswoman for H&M told Gulf News that the collaboration had been the most successful one yet, and that the queue to get into the Dubai Mall store on Thursday was the biggest the company had seen for a launch in the UAE.

Crazy. People queuing for more than an hour. It's just a pair of shoes, and they're not even on sale. Fighting over full priced shoes. The world has gone mad.
