Pirates, prisoners & the Titanic
Indian designer Neeta Lulla showcases a collection inspired by the sea in Dubai. Shimmering, crystal studded saris, nude coloured dresses and skirts, harem pants and corsets in sheer chiffons, lace and fishnet in black and gold and a soft, romantic range of white and beige gowns made up her FantaSea collection.
Bollywood designer Neeta Lulla presented her spring summer 2006 collection at a show held at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, on Sunday evening.
Titled FantaSea, the show took the audience on a voyage that explored the mysteries, moods and colours of the sea.
With pirate (TV actor) Sameer Kochhar at the helm, the ship was launched with a lively number by singer Samantha and her band, Take Four. Accompanied by the live band, each segment of the fashion show was linked with various aspects of life at sea.
Luxurious
Shimmering, crystal studded saris in luxurious fabrics represented the treasures looted by pirates; morose models dressed in nude coloured asymmetrically cut dresses and skirts, their hands tied with ropes walked the ramp in a glamorous representation of prisoners at sea forced to walk the plank.
Skirts, dresses, harem pants and corsets in sheer chiffons, lace, and fishnet all in black and gold was Neeta's sartorial interpretation of the Jolly Roger, the flag on pirate ships.
A soft, romantic range of white and beige gowns and dresses, on the other hand, evoked the bourgeois ambience of the banquet hall of the Titanic. The ship also encountered some sea nymphs in colourful half stitched saris and Flamenco dancers in ruffled printed and sequinned skirts.
Wearable
The garments were well designed and wearable. The outstanding feature of the collection was the innovative and sexy backs of the cholis that had creative Swarovski crystal and embroidered patterns on sheer chiffons in nude shades.
The event was presented by Emirates Bank in association with Damas and co-ordinated by Sunanda Lal and Sumeera Bahl.
The show was directed by Achla Sachdev and the hair and make-up were done by Hakim's Aalim and MAC, respectively. Damas provided the jewellery to complement the clothes on the ramp. Neeta Lulla's creations are available in the UAE exclusively at Crossover Bollywood Se.
