According to Vimi Joshi, Senior M.A.C. artist for Middle East and India, brown is the new black. And she should know, as it is her hands that transformed models' faces into coloured canvases for the runway shows that are happening as part of the Fashion Arabia Expo.
tabloid! caught Vimi backstage for some quick questions as she preps yet another model for the catwalk.
What are your favourite colours to use, and which ones do you shy away from?
I love brown, it's such a gorgeous colour and it looks great on all skin tones. For other colours, I love a challenge so I say bring it on!
How was your experience creating looks for the shows?
Me and my team did all the runway shows, which was great. The first show was very nude, with a light colour in the corner and then it became smokey as the day worn on. We didn't take off the make-up completely for each show, instead we minimised and emphasised different areas of the models' faces. The models begged us not to completely remove and re-apply as their skin becomes very sensitive.
Any quick beauty tips?
First moisturise, then apply foundation, mascara, lip colour, and finally groom your brows. You'll be out of the door in no time.
Vimi Joshi tells us how
"It's important to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised, I recommend using M.A.C Studio Moisture cream. Then you should apply foundation, to get a 3 in 1 effect, use M.A.C Studio Tech foundation powder because it starts as a cream and then turns to powder. To contour the face, a dark mineralised powder should be used. The purpose of contouring is to shade an area you want to minimise, so that you enhance features you like."
To get the smokey look:
- Apply a light eyeshadow on the inner corner of your eye
- On the outer eye corner apply a dark shade such as M.A.C Brown Script eyeshadow.
- Line your eyes heavily with eyeliner and coat your lashes with Mascara.
- Keep lips nude. Joshi suggests using M.A.C's Spice lip pencil and Revealing lipglass to make your lips look pink and fresh.
