Jolie gets creative to help children of conflict

Last updated:

She is the quintessential earth mother, a fierce wolf cautiously protecting her own cubs from harm — and the paps' lens — as well as supporting children whose own parents can't.

Now Angelina Jolie's taking her humanitarian work a step further, with a special collection she's designed for British jeweller Asprey from which all net proceeds will go to help her children's charity, the Education Partnership For Children of Conflict (EPCC).

Jolie and baby daddy Brad Pitt co-designed the Protector collection of rings, bracelets, pendants and silver children's items (you'll remember Pitt already has jewellery designing experience on his relationship resume: he designed his and Jennifer Aniston's wedding bands with Italian jeweller Damiani) — and according to Jolie, the inspiration came from her own jewellery box.

After receiving a snake ring said to guard her and her unborn child during her first pregnancy — that's little Shiloh — Angie's given great importance to the snake symbol as a family protector. The collection includes dainty, jewel-encrusted snakes which coil around fingers, wrists or dangle around the necks of both children and adults.

Jolie is the co-chair of EPCC, which provides schooling to children caught up in conflicts. "Every child has a right to an education," Jolie said in a statement.

"And conflict is not an excuse for us to ignore that right. If anything, it is the time that they need it the most."
