Fashion shows by all-American designer Tommy Hilfiger are reliability spectacular and the a/w '15 show was no different.

To celebrate the label's 30th anniversary at New York Fashion Week on Monday morning, Hilfiger drew from the American culture playbook he has mined so deeply over the years, choosing American football as his theme and fielding plenty of star power.

The Armory, a massive venue on Park Avenue often used for shows, was turned into an American football field, with bleachers, Astro turf and a Jumbotron -- a huge video screen that zoomed in on the crowd and show.

Sadly no cheerleaders; instead there was the front row: face of the brand Rita Ora sat alongside an actual footballer, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, and fashion quarterbacks Oliva Palermo and Rachel Zoe; the world's most popular bloggers were on hand (Bryan Boy, Chiara Ferragni) for the highly instagrammable event.

Hilfiger himself was styled MVP, or most valuable player, by the Jumbotron.

The other hot model of the moment, Gigi Hadad (no Cara or Kendall), joined other models in "teams", however once the show began, it was clear Hilfiger had stayed within his preppy zone with the designs.

There was no facepaint or modern sports fabrics; rather the inspiration came from the 1970s and actress Ali McGraw.

Think duffle coats and long scarves, letterman jackets with elongated collars and platform-style Mary Janes -- which sparkled with the glitter of New Year's Eve, 1975.

A white trouser suit had bellbottoms and a fur jacket.

A shout out to modernity was a maroon fur sweatshirt with 30 on the back, available to buy off the runway immediately via the designer's website.

Model Jourdan Dunn wore the most obviously "football" piece -- a dress modeled on a team jersey, but made in soft Italian leather. She and others sported lace-up wedge heels inspired by old-timey football boots.

Some of the best pieces were the swingy kick-pleat skirts, in felted wool and later on in velvet.

Colours stayed in the 70s with maroon, navy and tan.
