The stars turned out in force for the fifth day of Mumbai’s Lakme Fashion Week — both in the audience and on the runway.

Gauhar Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Nargis Fakri, Prachi Desai, Illeana D’Cruz, Kalki Koechlin and Karishma Kapoor walked for a variety of designers on Saturday. Gauhar Khan walked the runway for Ken Ferns in a printed corset worn with a long pencil skirt slit at the back. Ending Sonaakshi Raaj’s show was Desai in a stately lacy corset and moulded draped sari.

Former model Fakri walked for Shehla Khan, while Arora Khan was the top name at Saturday’s finale show by Anju Modi. The summer collections end on Sunday with a finale by Rajesh Pratap Singh. The next round of shows take place at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi from March 26, opened by Tarun Tahiliani.

Ken Ferns

The designer has been inspired by unconventional themes in the past; this time, he took inspiration from azulejos, Portuguese painted ceramic tiles.

Using modern summer colours such as blue and white, with touches of turquoise, green, bubble gum pink and lime green, Ferns created a floral fantasy with feminine contours that were moulded and crisp.

There were cropped tops, pleated shorts, floppy sleeves for asymmetric tunics and maxi skirts teamed with blouses for women. Menswear was a line-up of shorts, printed pants, shirts and tunics.

Sonaakshi Raaj

Red-carpet glamour hit the catwalk in flouncy formal skirts in pretty pastels teamed with sexy cropped tops with 3D appliques and seductive black high waist skinny pants with an ornate bustier under a black tulle blouse.

Pre-stitched draped saris were offered in a variety of options topped with corsets, lacy blouses, cutwork covers, halter gold bustiers or cut-out boleros.

Anushka Khanna

“Boom, Boom, Bloom,” made great fashionable music on the runway. The collection was dominated by the flower power motif that was seen on prints as well as embellishments. A photograph of her mother from the 1970s was the inspiration for the moody floral hues.

The designs varied from slips, pyjamas, belted kimono jackets to shorts, wrap dresses and sexy maxis.

Silver embroidered shifts, two-toned kimono dresses, a dazzling gold biker jacket with a khaki jersey gown, and a silver striped one-sleeve orange creation were impressive entries.

Ashdeen Lilaowala

Bringing retro oriental glamour inspired by Hollywood actress Anna May Won, the “Orient Express” collection had drama, excitement and exotic touches.

Lilaowala opened the show with an ecru sheath with red centre embroidery followed by a white bubble dress with 3D roses strategically placed on the body. Fabrics were luxurious lace, organza, lush crepe, brocade, satin and gold lame, which were highlighted by cutwork veiling and halter necklines.
