Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh’s incredible outfits and actress Kareena Kapoor combined to make the finale of Lakme Fashion Week of Summer/Resort 2014 truly grand. She was joined on the final day by Priyanka Chopra, who modelled in Neeta Lulla’s show, and Sunny Leone for Jyotsana Tiwari.

Fireworks lit the ramp as Kapoor entered in a long black dress with silver work, her hair tied up, metallic eye shadow and minimal make-up.

Besides the outstanding fashion line, a special catwalk was arranged for the designer on the garden lawn. With mirrors and candles on the runway, the show began with models walking in white attire.

A collection of contrasts divided into day and night, “Illusion” opened with structured ensembles in very light gossamer fabrics followed by fluid silhouettes. A lot of metallic shadows have been added in Rajesh’s fashion line.

The traditional frame hand-embroidery technique has also been twisted to use metal parts for a modern rendering.

Singh’s collection included jackets, dresses, skirts and a village bundi vest, albeit in a new avatar. With fabrics especially created for the collection, the woven experiments feature silver, stainless steel, paper, aluminium, hand-woven and hand-spun khadi, silk and linen.

Lulla’s Indo-western collection featured Chopra in “a kaftan that is very stylish and colourful,” said Lulla. “It was wonderful to have Priyanka as my muse. She carried it off really well. My collections had bright monochromatic colours with their tints inspired from the rain forest.”

Inspired by Aztec motifs with Indian badla work, the shades in the collection included cream, pink, purple and green with very simple silhouettes for summer, in both silk and satin. Chopra says she is always scared to walk the ramp.

“I get very nervous and I am the happiest when it gets over. This outfit is very comfortable. Neeta is one of the iconic designers and it was wonderful to walk for her,” she said.

Likewise for Leone, who wore a peach-pink gown by designer Tiwari.

“I was nervous walking the ramp, but the gown is very comfortable. This is a gown that everybody would love to wear. It’s a beautiful gown and I am thankful to Jyotsana for this.”

“My collection was inspired from summer holidays,” said Tiwari. “My first 10 garments were fun stuff and the rest were for young brides, which is perfect for a beach wedding.”
