The UAE’s very own Furne One, known for dressing everyone from Katy Perry and Heidi Klum to Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, is making his New York Fashion Week debut.

One (pronounced on-ay), will close the FTL Moda + Art Heats Foundation event on the last day of the eight-day event which has so far seen designers such as Herve Leger, Monique Lhuillier, Jill Stuart, Reem Acra and Tommy Hilfiger showcasing their fall-winter collections for next season.

The event, presented by the Aids Healthcare Foundation, aims to promote the connection between fashion and philanthropy and support the next generation of young designers while promoting Aids awareness, say organisers Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

The show, they said, will begin with a showcase by Italian designers, featuring up-and-coming names as well as Haute Couture designer Nino Lettieri. M the Movement, the urban style eco-friendly line from Michael Herrera is also on the rota, followed by Mister Triple X the streetwear line by Erik Rosete, Control Sector and Altaf Maaneshia. One will then close the show.

“I was invited in the first week of January and barely had a month to prepare the collection,” said the designer, who moved to Dubai 14 years ago. “But this is an honour and I couldn’t say no.”

The Filipino designer, an established name in the region, says his 20-piece collection is called Grey Skies. “It’s a gloomy, wintery and very emotional collection. But as always there will be drama, drama, drama,” he laughed.

Arts Heats Foundation events usually feature a heavy dose of celebrity attendees. Previous guests include Lindsay Lohan, Adam Lambert, Bobby Brown, Floyd Mayweather, Tatum O’neal, Tia Mowry, Neon Hitch, Bonnie Mckee and Evenesence. The fashion week, which kicked off on Thursday, has already seen Carrie Underwood, Anna Kendrick and Joe Jonas attend shows.

“I love the charity angle to it and this is a good way to get my name out there,” said One, who’s a regular at the Los Angeles and Miami fashion weeks.

The Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week runs until February 13.
