For the second time in a row, Dubai Fashion Week’s runway shows slated to run this month stand cancelled. DFW Organisers said the biannual event, which was cancelled at the last minute in March this year, will be re-introduced in 2013.

“The organisers of DFW wish to inform the industry that post last year’s edition the necessary alliances are still taking shape in preparation for the reintroduction of the event in 2013,” said DFW creative director and official spokesperson Simon P Lock in an e-mail sent Thursday morning.

Usually, the Spring-Summer showcase is held mid-October.

“The organisers wish to restate their commitment to only producing a world class event and will be making further announcements in the new year,” he added.

In March 2012, the DFW was dropped due to lack of funds. During an interview with tabloid! in March its event director Rohit Sabikhi attributed the cancellation to failure in gathering support on time.

“Fashion shows all over the world are an expensive proposition. This season, funds needed to be generated and certain things took longer than anticipated,” said Sabhiki. Lock, who was brought on board in 2011 amidst much fanfare to breathe new life into the fashion week, echoed his sentiments. “In the end we just weren’t prepared to present an event that wasn’t the best we could possibly make it” .

In May 2010, Dubai-based media company Capital Marketing purchased the DFW operating rights from Concept Group. The DFW has been running in Dubai since 2006.
