There are some beauty treatments you can do at home, but for a really pampered feeling, it’s best to leave it to the professionals. Paraffin treatments are one area where letting someone else take care of it is essential, and The Nail Spa’s brand-new PerfectSense treatment was an excuse to do just that. I headed over to the new location at Arabian Ranches Golf Club to test the moisturising and relaxing session. First — the Nail Spa is the only place I go for mani-pedis, simply because they seem to last longer than any others I’ve tried (they use Essie polishes) and the service is always top-notch. At the Arabian Ranches salon, they’ve changed little, except improving their one annoyance: Fashion TV was switched off, although this is perhaps because it was Ramadan. Please don’t turn it on again!

What else is new are the pedicure chairs, which have tables that pull out of the arm rests like in a business class aeroplane seat, giving a place to rest your hands — and the iPad they give you full of magazines, a really nice touch.

I was there to try out The Hot Wrapper paraffin treatment, a new system which heats individual sachets of vitamin-enriched paraffin without electricity (it uses self-heating pads). That means it’s cleaner for you (no shared tubs) and for the environment. The wax gets hot enough to release a perfume of aromatherapy oils around you. But it’s the warm wax’s soothing effect on my feet that I most enjoyed — never have my legs and feet felt so light. I could have danced out of the salon. The treatment is also available for the hands.
